Special Endmill Design Center

In minutes you can easily design a special SMART Endmill, instantly view and download 2D and 3D CAD files, then submit an RFQ. You will receive a quotation, delivery date and a VirtualRunoff™ so you can test drive your new special tool. Ideal for quoting on jobs. No guessing and no post-award surprises. Place your order and you will receive the full BlueSwarf Dashboard™ so you can start programming while your tool is being manufactured. Your Velocity SMART Special Tool will arrive fully assembled and balanced, ready to run. If you order a special endmill for an existing SMART Toolholder, you will receive weighted screws and instructions to put your new configuration in balance. Your special endmill will feature our patent pending quick change tool retention system. Use our Tooling Cloud to manage your inventory and keep your new tools on-hand. Utilize our comprehensive Tool Reconditioning Service to drive your costs down.

Our SMART Endmill Design Center uses state-of-the-art technology from AutoCAD and our patented Receptance Coupling Substructure Analysis (RCSA), developed for the Machine Tool Genome Project.

2. How to Select Number of Teeth and Workpiece Material

Chose 3 flutes for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Our 4 Flute has variable pitch teeth for heavy roughing and slotting applications in most materials. Our 5 Flute is designed for up to 25% step-over applications using high speed machining (HSM) tool paths.  Our 7 and 9 Flute (depending on diameter) is for 15% or less step-over using HSM in tough to machine materials, as well as, fine finishing applications.

3. Other Tips

  1. To create a Ball End, divide the Cutter Diameter (DC) by 2 and enter that value into the Corner Radius field (CR).
  2. Use the 1/2" diameter shank on the Tapered Shank Builder to design small cutter diameter endmills down to 1/8" (3mm) in diameter.
  3. If you want a square corner, do not type 0.00" in the CR field. Uncheck "Is there a Corner Radius?" and the CAD model will update to a square end.
  4. We recommend 9 flute for 0.625" and larger Cutter Diameters (DC), 7 flute for smaller than 0.625" if the high density flutes fit your application.
  5. Choose uncoated or our premium FC20 coating.
  6. Select workpiece material.
